Got Your Costumes? Get Your Costumes!!

Crop Over 2018 was an absolutely blast!! Despite all the increasing number of complaints Bajans may have concerning Crop Over every year. We always seem to enjoy ourselves for Jump Up Day. And with the ever-increasing popularity of the Fore Day Morning Jam it’s like we get to have a Big Day & a Big Night.

This is around the time that bands launches have all been pretty much launched and costumes are starting to sell out. If you’re planning to jump then better get your costume secured because this is crunch time.

The offerings we’ve seen for this year are possibly the most vibrant, free-flowing and front-line-like costumes we’ve seen in years. No matter the section of band you chose you’re sure to be looking absolutely amazing. If there’s one thing about Crop Over that seems to be getting better and better it’s the costumes!!

Miss World Barbados 2019

Miss World is the oldest and longest-running beauty pageant in the world. The inaugural pageant took place in 1951 London & was created by a gentleman named Eric Morley. One very interesting fact is that the Miss World pageant was originally a bikini contest that took place during the Festival of Britain. It was intended to promote sales of the new but controversial “two-piece” bikini design. The bikini contest became so popular and closely followed by the press that they dubbed it the “Miss World Contest.” The very first winner was a young lady named Kerstin “Ki Ki” Hakansson (no relation to Drake) from Sweden. After seeing the popularity of the pageant, Eric Morley decided to detach it from the Festival of Britain and make Miss World its own annual pageant. Today it’s regarded as the most prestigious universal beauty pageant carrying the slogan “Beauty With a Purpose.”

In 2018 Miss World Barbados Ashley Lashley (_ash.lash) finished in the top 30 amongst the 119 other contestants from around the world. Despite the small size of our island, we Bajans have always enjoyed punching above our weight and letting the world know we are here. It’s our strong belief that we can win this competition and etch our names in yet another facet of world history. So let’s support these 8 amazing young ladies on their journey. On August 31stone of the young ladies will the chosen to represent Barbados at Miss World 2019 in Pattaya Thailand come December.
